Crockery, Glassware, Storage and More…

Serving dishes/ storage tubs/glassware/ cutlery/bottles & jars

Crockery – After scrolling through many fb entries it was pretty obvious that my dinner helpings after completing the post-op food stages would not be served up on normal dinner plates or bowls. I moved my everyday plates around in my cupboard so that small plates and bowls were now within easy reach. My soup portions would be served in mini chinese rice bowls. I would use my chinese soup spoons, an ideal way to restrict my spoon sizes.

Storage Tubs – After completing my freezer re-organisation I was running out of tubs to store food in. My normal containers were now too large for single portions. I looked at a variety of containers in the shops and online.

I had come across some old ones I’d hidden at the back of a cupboard, but they were no longer available. The nearest to these were Nuby 4month+ round tubs with lids. These are the exact size for a soup portion. If opening a standard soup tin, divide it into 4 helpings.

I also bought tiny weaning freezing boxes that hold 2oz. These are ideal for stewed apple sauce, stewed rhubarb or berries. I stewed my fruit using Splenda, a sugar derivitive, that does not get absorbed by the body. It is expensive, but it is sweeter than actual sugar, so less can be used. These little tubs could also be used for pureed veggies.

Microwave Steaming Bags – These are an ideal no mess, less washing up, quick cooking time, healthy way to prepare chicken fish etc. I like the Lakeland or Sainsbury steam bags. They are good quality, no spill bags. It’ll take about 2-3min to cook a piece of fish.

Drinking – I found that filling a 500ml flask or water bottle was not a good way for me to monitor my water/ liquid intake. It was taking me too long to see results. Psychologically the measure was too large . The same applied for my usual mug size. I felt I needed to use something smaller to drink from. Whatever drinking vessels you choose, make sure that you establish how much they hold.

In the end I bought little Kilner milk bottles. Just like I got back in Nursery school, lol. Anyway, they hold 200ml, a great measure, that does not over fill me, and easy to keep track of. I now use a Glass Cafe Latte Glass/mug for my Green tea or Hot water with lemon, again it holds 200ml
