Wounds

All surgeons have a preference as to how many wounds you will have following surgery.

Number of Wounds I have 4 wounds. 3 are in a row across my abdomen and one is in the vacinity of my breast bone. The wound on my right is where the surgeon removed my excess stomach. It had staples on it. The other 3 were glued.

Showering I had a shower the day following surgery as I had waterproof dressings on. I was told not to have a bath until my staples were out and I had been given clearance to do so.

Staple Removal About 7-10 days after surgery I attended the hospital to have the staples removed. Everything was fine.

What You Need to Heal  Obviously personal hygiene is important. The last thing you want is to get a wound infected. Getting in your protein and water quota as early as possible is also important. Remember you heal from the inside out and your body needs Animal Protein to repair cells, tissue etc.

Important  Eat well, keep hydrated and your body fresh and clean.

If any of your wounds are seeping, bleeding, oozing, discoloured or become inflamed red be aware that this could be an infection. You should see a doctor immediately. Do not hang around asking on fb. Seek the advice of a medical professional.

Note: It is important to know that just because you look healed on the outside it does not mean that you are fully healed on the inside. Your body has just been through an enormous trauma. Your surgeon has been poking and prodding your insides with nothing other than big sticks. This will take time to heal. You will be tender for a while. DO NOT try and bend and lift or push too soon. I tried to reach down and pull something from a cupboard and strained myself. I brought pain back to the area that had been fine until then. So BE CAREFUL!
